Rollover Semi-Tanker Crash with Entrapment, Ethanol on Elmhurst Rd Near I-90, Unincororated Des Plaines

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:46 AM Wednesday to a report of a rollover crash with injuries on northbound Elmhurst Road near I-90. E63 on arrival reports a rollover tanker truck leaking fluid. Placard 1987 is displayed on the truck. Pinned driver with rapid extrication. If actually Placard 1987, contents are ethanol alcohol. , 42.017535, -87.940147 (Elmhurst Road and I-90 Des Plaines, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a rollover crash with injuries on northbound Elmhurst Road near I-90. des Plaines Engine 63's crew on arrival reported a rollover tanker truck leaking fluid. The crew reported Placard 1987 is displayed on the truck, which would be ethanol alcohol if the placard is accurate.

The driver was pinned in the truck and crews were working in rapid extrication mode. If actually Placard 1987, contents are ethanol alcohol. A battalion chief on the scene reported that they were dealing with denatured alcohol. Denatured ethanol is described as ethanol with additives to make it poisonous, bad-tasting, foul-smelling, or nauseating to discourage recreational consumption.

A response from Chicago ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) was also immediately requested to respond from O'Hare International Airport.

The crash was upgraded to a working fire response at 7:59 a.m. because of the highly flammable nature of the hazardous material.

All firefighters near the scene are with full PPE and SCBA.
