SUV Goes Airborne Hits Semi-Truck Head-on WB Palatine Rd West of Rand Rd, Arlington Heights
Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:30 PM Monday to a report of crash with injuries near Palatine Road and Rand Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a head-on collision occurred involving and SUV and a semi-trailer truck.
Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived on the scene and discovered a red Subaru SUV crashed head-on into a Kenworth semi-trailer truck tanker. A female driver in the Subaru was injured.
The driver of the Subaru was transported to Northwest Community Hospital by Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighter/paramedics.
Police and firefighters learned that the tanker truck was hauling waste water from a food plant in Wheeling, and transporting it to a facility in Rockford. There was no hazardous material in the tanker, and according to sources no hazmat placard was required on the truck. No material from the tanker spilled in the roadway, but the crash broke the truck's radiator, which involved a fluid leak.
Witnesses said the driver of the SUV was entering Palatine Road from the Town & Country parking lot near the Verizon store on the south side of Palatine Road near the eastbound lanes. For an unknown reason the SUV was driven across the grass ridge median. The SUV became airborne as it crossed the small ridge of the median and while airborne hit the front of the Kenworth truck, which was westbound on Palatine Road.
Palatine Road was under construction with some cones in the roadway, but there didn't appear to be any busy construction activity in the vicinity of the crash,
Westbound Palatine Road was closed at Rand Road for about an hour until the truck was towed.
