Passerby Discovers House Fire on Illinois Blvd Near Thacker St, Hoffman Estates

Hoffman Estates police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:22 AM Saturday to a report of a house fire in the block of 480 Illinois Boulevard Hoffman Estates, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a passerby saw smoke coming from a house. Firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from a one-story house by 12:25 p.m. The back of the house was fully-involved with fire by 12:30 p.m. Fire command evacuated all interior attack firefighters from the house by 12:31 p.m. and fought the fire defensively for a period of time before entering the house again. The fire was declared under control about 12:55 p.m. A live power line was down in the back of the yard and ComEd was called to the scene. No injuries were reported. Vehicle Burglary on East Golf Rd Near Meier Rd, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police received a report about 6:23 PM Thursday of a vehicle burglary in the block of 900 East Golf Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders entered the victim's unlocked vehicles, a 2009 gray Honda Civic and a 2014 silver Toyota Camry. Taken were two Garmin GPS units, valued at $100 each. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders called the victim claiming to be ComEd. The offender demanded payment of the victim's bill via MoneyGram. The victim made payment via Money Gram for over $500. Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:19 AM Friday to a report of crash with injuries at 42.126453, -87.936727 (Elmhurst Rd And Wheeling High School). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a person might have been trapped in the car, but when firefighters arrived all four doors of the vehicle were open. The extrication crash response was held up and firefighter/paramedics in Ambulance 24's crew assessed their patient for possible injuries from the crash. Local Teens Join Efforts with Arlington Pediatrics and Palatine Police to Prevent Distracted Driving; Safety Fair Jan. 30 2016

Arlington Heights, IL ​– We live in a world where we are constantly multitasking, which unfortunately includes people using their cell phones while driving. Dr. David Brottman, a practicing pediatrician at Arlington Pediatrics in the northwest suburbs has seen firsthand what distracted driving has done to his own patients and the personal tragedies affecting families. Because of this, Dr. Brottman founded an organization "Just Hang It Up" and his mission is to curb cell phone use by drivers all together. Local high school students, under the oversight of Dr. Brottman, have taken the "Just Hang It Up" message to the public in an effort to help prevent distracted driving, particularly with the teenage driving community. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, texting while driving makes you 23 times more likely to crash and about 6 times more likely to cause an accident than driving intoxicated.
