Zombie Prom At Prospect High School: Mash-Up Of Grease, Little Shop Of Horrors And The Walking Dead

Prospect High School's theater department presents its spring musical, Zombie Prom, Wednesday through Saturday, April 24-27, at 7 p.m. A Saturday matinee will also take place at 2 p.m. on April 27. Admission is $10. For more information or to obtain tickets, call House Manager Sandy Ghilarducci at (847) 718-5222.

Zombie Prom is sort of a mash-up of Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Walking Dead, but "slicker and a lot funnier," according to director Jeremy Morton. There is definitely something for everyone: dancing, doo-wops, teen ballads, rocking and rousing music, and a nuclear zombie!

This is the story of rebel-without-a-cause Jonny (played by senior Franco Longobardi), who drives his motorcycle into an atomic power plant and comes back as a zombie, determined to win his girl back. Jonny struggles to be treated just like any other kid. He and his girlfriend, Toffee (senior Jamie Kowalczyk), and the town reporter, Eddie Flagrante (senior Patrick Pfohl), battle against the hard-headed school principal Miss Strict (senior Chloe Chidester) to allow Jonny to re-enter high school, and especially to go to prom. Overall, Zombie Prom's message is one of equal rights for all—in this case, even the undead.

Prospect congratulates "Jonny" (Franco Longobardi) for being selected as one of 24 finalists in this year's Broadway in Chicago High School Music Theater Awards program. Longobardi will compete on Monday, April 29, against some of the most talented musical theater students in the state, representing Prospect's Zombie Prom. See why he was selected for this recognition when Zombie Prom hits the Prospect stage!

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

Circa 57 Opening This Summer In Former Grand Station And People's Bank Location At Vail Ave And Campbell St

Coming soon is a 1950's-themed restaurant expected to be opened this summer with 10.000 square feet at the corner of Campbell Street and Vail Avenue.

The existing bar area from the former Grand Station restaurant will be transformed into an old-fashioned soda fountain, according to owners Anthony Priola and Kimberly Priola. The bar area will be modeled after an old Texaco gas station from 1957, and will include a gift shop with memorabilia inside a mock-up of a 1950-style department store.

The restaurant owners are hoping to open three feature sections that will open in two phases -- two sections are targeted to open in the former Grand Station space in May, and the third section in the former People's Bank section later in the summer.

The first section of the restaurant will be designed after dad's backyard barbecue, including burgers, barbecued ribs and seafood.

The second section will be all about the Blue Plate Specials -- with diner comfort foods like fried chicken, biscuits and meatloaf.

"Blue-plate special" is a dining phrase from the 1920s through the 1950s used by restaurants, especially diners and cafes. Blue-plate specials refer to a special low-priced meal, usually changing daily, and usually consisting of a "meat and three" (three vegetables).

The third section at Circa 57 will feature an automotive/drive-in scene with a 1957 Chevy and other 1950s cars. Old movies will play like at a drive-in while customer order and eat in the cars from a selection of burgers, fries, milkshakes or pizza.

Circa 57 will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a late night menu. Circa 57 will also host some live entertainment, private parties and maybe an occasional sockhop.

It looks like the owners might have crowd sourced their website with desgners via Crowdspring.com. Check this link to see what the website might look like for Circa 57 ...
