The Arlington Heights Police Department is warning residents of a new scam that has been reported to police. Scammers are posting Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bulls tickets at artificially low prices on the Craigslist and Backpage websites. When potential victims contact the scammers, the scammers instruct the victims to go to CVS stores and wire them money via Moneygram and Western Union. The scammers tell the potential victims that they will email them the tickets once payment is received via wire. Payment is sent, but no tickets are ever emailed to the victims. Once payment is sent via wire, it is almost impossible to retrieve the funds as they are instantly collected by the scammers at the receiving end. "He Went That Way" Rollover Crash With Injuries At Rand Road And Frontage Road, Palatine

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:23 PM Sunday to a report of crash with injuries at Rand Road and Frontage Road Palatine, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that one vehicle was rolled on its side in a two-vehicle crash. When firefighters/paramedics and police arrived, a witness reported that the driver of one of the vehicles ran into Clifford's Bar at the northwest corner of Rand Road and Frontage Road. When police and firefighter/paramedics checked inside Cliffords Bar, another witness said the driver might have rand out the back door of Clifford's. No word on whether the driver was found. The second driver refused medical transport to a hospital with apparent minor or no injuries. Eastbound lanes of Rand Road were affected with delays by the crash. Arlington Heights firefighters were caught in the act of a good deed Christmas Eve at the Jewel-Osco, 1860 South Arlington Heights Road gathering food for 12 needy families. As in other years, each firefighter donated money out of their own pockets to fund the annual program. In a similar grateful response, families this year greeted firefighters with hugs and homemade Christmas cookies to show their great appreciation for the meals. Rolling Meadows High School Sophomore Dies Saturday In Mount Prospect -- No Foul Play Suspected

Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 to a report that a 15-year old male was unconscious and not breathing at an apartment in Mount Prospect. Firefighter/paramedics transported the patient to Northwest Community Hospital with extra paramedics apparently working Advanced Life Support. The patient, Israel Echeverria, age 15, was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday at Northwest Community Hospital. Officials said an autopsy was completed, but is pending toxicology test results which take four to six weeks to complete. Arlington Heights Man's Life Saved By Bystander/Rescue Cpr And Paramedics At South Middle School After Collapsing While Playing Basketball

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:04 PM Thursday to South Middle School, 400 South Highland Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a call that a man collapsed in the gymnasium -- reported by bystanders as a possible heart attack. Initially bystanders thought the man was breathing, but then began CPR when no breathing or pulse was detected. The man, reported to be about 70-years-old, was playing basketball in the South Middle School Gym when he collapsed. Firefighter/paramedics from Rescue Ambulance 1 and Squad 1 requested an extra crew for a possible working cardiac arrest call with witnessed collapse while they were en route to South Middle School at about 7:06 p.m. Witnesses reported a defibrillator was used, and the man was transported with Advanced Life Support in Rescue Ambulance 1 to Northwest Community Hospital. One Adult, Two Juveniles Arrest In Connection With Multiple Burglaries Near Lake Cook Road, Bloomington Avenue, Wilke Road, Arlington Heights

The Arlington Heights Police Department has arrested three (3) people in connection with a string of residential burglaries that occurred over the past two months in the area of Lake Cook Road and Wilke Road in Arlington Heights. The offenders made entry through unsecured sliding glass doors of apartments and single family homes. Once inside the apartments, the offenders targeted electronic items and jewelry. The majority of the stolen items have been recovered and arrangements are being made to return the stolen property to the rightful owners. The investigation is ongoing, but it is believed the offenders are responsible for at least nine (9) residential burglaries and four (4) attempted residential burglaries in Arlington Heights. Marlvin Hill, age 18, of 4067 Bonhill Drive -- just west of the affected area was charged with two counts of residential burglary, and was held on $30,000 bond. Arlington Heights "Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over" Traffic Enforcement Begins Friday December 19, 2014

The Arlington Heights Police Department will commence specialized traffic enforcement activities relating to the Christmas and New Year Holiday "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" enforcement campaign from December 19 through January 4, 2015. Enforcement activities will include extra DUI patrols and a Roadside Safety Checkpoint. The checkpoint will take place on Friday, December 19 on Arlington Heights Road south of Algonquin Road. Officers working the campaign will be attempting to identify and cite motorists who choose to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, without using their safety belts, or who are committing other traffic-related offenses. Woman Who Reported She Was Stabbed In Forest Preserve Charged With Felony: Filing A False Police Report

A 33-year-old Des Plaines woman was charged with filing a false police report in connection with an incident that occurred in a Forest Preserve area near Palatine, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today. On Nov. 29, Veronica Klicka reported that she was stabbed by an unknown offender while walking along a trail in the Deer Grove East Forest Preserve area. She had an apparent stab wound and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. During the course of their investigation, Sheriff's Police detectives learned that she had injured herself with a knife. She fabricated that someone had stabbed her because she believed she was not supposed to be in possession of any weapons because she is on court-ordered supervision for DUI. Klicka was arrested on Dec. 5 and charged with disorderly conduct – false report of an offense, a class 4 felony.
