Village Of Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission Seeks Nominees For Kenneth Hood Senior Service Award

The Village of Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission is seeking nominations for the seventh annual Kenneth Hood Senior Service Award. Big Trucks Show For Kids And Kids At Heart At Palatine Aquatic Center Lot, May 3, 2014

Palatine Park District presents Big Trucks at the Family Aquatic Center parking lot on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 10:00am to 1:00pm The free event is located at 340 East Palatine Road. Parking will be available in the Community Center Parking Lot located at 250 East Wood Street, Palatine. The family event allows children of all ages the opportunity to see big trucks and vehicles, including fire engines, of course. Kids will be able to sit in the driver's seat in some of the trucks. Cannabis Arrests After Suspicious Persons Call At Motel 6, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police responded on Saturday to a report of suspicious males congregating outside near the Motel 6, 441 West Algonquin Road Arlington Heights, IL. The suspicious persons call resulted in three Cannabis possession arrests. Police arrested Marcos Arias, age 20, of the 600 block of Carroll Square, Elk Grove Village, and Felix Cruz-Reyes, age 19, of the 500 block of Touhy, Des Plaines. Police officers who arrived on the scene detected the odor of Cannabis in the air. A consensual search of Arias discovered a small amount of Cannabis in his front pocket. Cruz had Cannabis folded up in a magazine he was holding. Both subjects were charged on local ordinance, and released on personal recognizance. Their court dates are June 2, 2014. Additional police officers that arrived on the scene also saw Bryan Abarca, age 20, of the 7500 block North Elmhurst Road Des Plaines, walking away from the area. Teen Shot With Airsoft Gun On Thomas St Near Walnut Ave, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police responded about 9:26 PM Saturday to report of a teen hit by an Airsoft projectile in the block of 500 West Thomas Street Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that a 13-year-old male victim was hit in the back with an Airsoft gun. The victim and a friend were playing in front of the friend's parent's house. The victim and his friend noticed a dark-colored SUV fleeing the area westbound on Thomas Street after the victim was struck with a projectile. The dark SUV had a variety of stickers on the back windows. The crime is reported to have occurred Saturday about 9:25 p.m. The offense is considered a simple battery. The victim's family declined medical attention, but the victim did sustain a welt or bruise-like injury to his back. Forest Park police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:29 AM Tuesday to a rollover semi-trailer truck crash 41.873547,-87.805225 (EB I-290 just west of Harlem Ave Forest Park, IL) . Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a crash just east of Harlem Avenue. The crash was actually just west of Harlem Avenue by about 100 feet. The truck driver was trapped in the cab of his truck, but was reported uninjured. All lanes are blocked and eastbound I-290 is shut down at Harlem Avenue and is shut down at 1st Avenue. Crash With Injuries Westbound I-90 Just West Of Roselle Rd, Schaumburg

Illinois State Police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:30 AM Sunday to a report of a crash with injuries on westbound 42.065161,-88.087277 (Interstate 90 and Roselle Road Schaumburg, IL). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a rollover crash on westbound Interstate 90 possibly involving a semi-trailer truck and two vehicles. Apparently four vehicles were involved, but no semi-trailer truck. A Chevy SUV rolled over and at least one person needed extrication to get out of the vehicle. Arlington Heights police received a report Monday of a successful telephone fraud scam of a victim who lives in the block of 800 South Burton Place Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that an unknown offender purporting to work for the IRS left a message on the victim's answering machine. The victim contacted the offender via the telephone number provided on the answering machine message. The offender advised there was a problem with the victim's tax return; demanded payment within the hour or the victim would be subject to arrest. The offender instructed the victim to go to the nearest CVS to purchase Green Dot Money Pak Cards. The victim purchased two cards valued around $1000 and provided the offender with the 14-digit serial number. Later the resident apparently became suspicious and discovered the card was depleted of the balance. Arlington Heights police have updated information on a previous case reported last March 2014. Previously police reported that a victim was approached by a disheveled-looking female about 50-years-old who scammed an 88-year-old woman into giving up $10,000 cash. Police have updated information and now report that two females approached the 88-year-old victim after she finished grocery shopping at Jewel-Osco, 440 East Rand Road. The two females engaged a conversation with the victim about a found wallet, and then persuaded the victim to withdraw $12,000 from her personal checking account and give the money to the two women. Subject #1 was described as a female/white in her 60s, 5'6", medium build with short black hair, who referred to herself as "Rachel". Subject #2 was described as a female/white in her 60s, 5'5" heavy set with a quarter-size wound above her right eye, who referred to herself as "Susan". No video surveillance images

Head-On Crash On Golf Rd, Just West Of Barrington Road, Hoffman Estates

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:05 PM Thursday to a head-on crash with a rollover on Golf Road, just west of Gold Road and Barrington Road Hoffman Estates, IL. Bartlett Medic 1 paramedics, apparently returning from St. Alexius Hospital, discovered a head-on crash with rollover on Golf Road just west of Barrington Road. Police and firefighter/paramedics immediately shut down Golf Road between Barrington Road and Bartlett Road. Bartlett paramedics reported at least one Level I trauma victim and requested a medical helicopter transport to respond to the scene. Both vehicles were in the center of Golf Road and extrication operations were performed on the vehicle on its roof. Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics assisted Hoffman Estates and Bartlett crews at the scene. At least one victim was transported to a Level I Trauma Center -- believed to be Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Possibly two other victims were also injured.

Arlington Heights police received a report about 8:55 PM Sunday of a theft by deception at the Metra Train Station, 45 West Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that the victim arranged via Craigslist to purchase gift cards valued at $850 and $580. The victim met with an unknown male/black subject, verified the gift cards had money on them and purchased the gift cards from the subject. The victim later attempted to use the gift cards and learned the gift cards had been reported lost/stolen; and therefore the gift cards had a zero balance and could not be used. The crime is reported to have occurred on Sunday April 13, 2014 at 4:55 p.m. At an earlier date in March, the victim purchased gift cards of a lower value from the same suspect.
