Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car crashed into a pole and was off the road. Police and firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a large steel overhead traffic signal and steel pole down at the northeast corner of Northwest Highway and Wilke Road. Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:51 PM Friday to a report of a semi-trailer truck crash, Lake Cook Road and Schaefer Road Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a truck crashed through a fence and crashed into a tree. Initially police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that the truck driver was up walking around, but the truck driver was actually pinned in the truck. Engine 4's crew on arrival by 2:57 p.m. reported the driver was pinned in, and request Buffalo Grove Tower Ladder 25's crew for assistance. The patient was difficult to access because of the fence, tree, shrubs and debris surrounding the truck. The truck driver was extricated by 3:08 p.m. A significant amount of diesel fuel also spilled from the truck -- possibly from one of the saddle tanks. Recycling Bin Fire Singes Siding of House on Wilke Rd, Arlington Heights -- Passerby's Actions Deserve Praise

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:55 PM Sunday to a report of a house fire in the block of 1200 North Wilke Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a passerby saw flames coming from a recycling bin at the side of a house. The passerby alerted residents in the house and called 9-1-1, preventing serious damage to the home and preventing harm to the residents. One of the residents pulled the recycling bin down the driveway away from the house. However, the siding became singed and blackened from soot. Firefighters checked for fire extension inside the house, and used a FLIR thermal image camera to check for any hidden ignition areas behind the siding or inside the siding. Firefighters soaked the siding and the ceiling of the porch. No injuries were reported. Firefighters and police learned that careless discarding of smoking materials likely started the fire. The man was located in the southwest corner of the parking lot just east of the driveway with the stoplight just east of Arlington Heights Road.
