Suv off Roadway Into Creek Near Interstate 90 and Route 53, Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:46 PM Thursday to a report of crash with injuries at 42.059963, -88.025943 (3601 Algonquin Rd Rolling Meadows, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that an SUV ran off the expressway and into a creek behind a parking lot near 3601 Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows. Occupants of the vehicle were able to get out of the vehicle before firefighter/paramedics arrived. Firefighters secured the area and gained access to the vehicle from the parking lot side of the incidents. The vehicle occupants walked up the south bank of the creek upward toward the expressway ramp, where they were rescued by Rolling Meadows and Schaumburg firefigher/paramedics. Three people were transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights by Rolling Meadows and Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics. There was no known report of contact with another vehicle or a reason why the SUV left the roadway. FIRE/MED

Kids Set Mulch on Fire Days Before Extra-Alarm Fire Destroyed Spring Street Kindercare at Spring St and McClean Blvd, South Elgin

South Elgin police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:37 AM Wednesday to a report of an activated fire alarm and a passer by report of fire and smoke showing from Spring Street KinderCare, 1250 West Spring Street South Elgin, Il. Firefighters and police received a report of an activated alarm, then a restored-to-trouble alarm with a simultaneous report from a passerby of flames and black smoke showing from the back of the building near the playground area. No employees, parents or children were at the building at the time of the fire. Kane County and/or South Elgin Police were already investigating a case involving youths that allegedly set mulch on fire near the KinderCare building earlier this week. Schaumburg police responded to a crash or discovered a crash about 11:00 PM Tuesday near Nordstrom at Woodfield Mall on 42.044420, -88.041337 (Perimeter Drive Schaumburg, IL). Police were apparently searching for a driver and/or passengers. Apparently the driver and any possibly passengers left the scene on foot or got a ride from someone. A black pickup truck in the roadway with serious damage. The severity of the crash likely would have caused some injuries. Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:11 AM Sunday to a report of an activated fire alarm at a condominium building at 44 North Vail Avenue Arlington Heights, IL. Firefighter/paramedics received a report of an activated fire alarm, followed by a report that a resident pulled the manual alarm after smelling the odor of natural gas on floors 3, 4, 5 and 6. Firefighters investigated the 7-story building for a natural gas leak by smell sense and by using gas detection meters. A woman also met firefighters on the first floor and reported a gas odor inside the building. There was a slight metered detection on the 3rd floor with no odor. The meter was reading 140 ppm on the third floor. On floor 5 the meter was reading 100 ppm. Engine 2's crew reported an odor on the second floor, but reported reported no detection on the gas detection meter.
