Memorial Day Is Every Day for Family and Combat Veterans Who Know Those That Never Came Home

For family and combat veterans who know people who didn't come home, every day is Memorial Day. For combat veterans that left fellow soldiers behind, it might be survivor's guilt that nags them daily. For family members of a KIA solder, it is deep sorrow that hits them daily. Arlington Heights residents Bob and Linda Stack lost their son USMC Lance Cpl. James Bray Stack on November 10, 2010 when he was killed during combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan after only one month of his first tour of duty overseas. Last November, they held a Memorial Service at Memory Gardens Cemetery marking five years since their son's death as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. They credit support of friends and a faith in God and a life hereafter -- beyond an earthly temporary place with its wars, mass shootings, poverty and evil politics -- and an afterlife where their son guards the streets of Heaven.
