Palm Beach Armed Robbery Suspect Mark Silverston Arrested by Arlington Heights Police; Identified from Published Security Image

Arlington Heights Police Department has charged Mark E. Silverston, age 24 of Arlington Heights, with one count of aggravated robbery as a suspect in the October 17, 2015 armed robbery of the Palm Beach Tanning Salon on Palatine Road.

Arlington Heights police report that Silverston, 5'8" 135 LBS, was identified by someone police described as a "Good Samaritan" who saw security camera images posted on the Arlington Heights Police Department's official Twitter account.

According to police, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt entered the tanning salon at 1:35 p.m. Saturday October 17, 2015 and approached the front counter. After the clerk greeted the man, he lifted his sweatshirt to display a black handgun in his waistband. The offender placed his left hand on the gun and said, "Give me all of your money."

Police retrieved security camera images from two different retail locations. One location at the tanning salon showing the robber with his hood up at the scene of the crime while the robbery was in progress. The second security camera retrieved from an adjacent business showed the suspect without his hood up. The suspect was at the adjacent location before he entered the salon where the robbery occurred.

A second armed robbery was committed by a suspect armed with a knife on Saturday October 31, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. at the same tanning salon. The second robbery remains under investigation, police reported Thursday. Police earlier in November indicated the same person was possibly responsible for both holdups.

A judge set bail at $100,000 Thursday.

Silverston is being held in the Cook County jail. He is scheduled to return to court December 10, 2015.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Jewel-Osco TCF Bank Arlington Heights Robbery Suspect Arrested Tuesday -- 8 Days After In-Store Bank Was Robbed

John P. Stoessel, age 37, of the 300 block of West Tanglewood Drive in Arlington Heights has been charged in connection with a bank robbery that happened on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Jewel-Osco, 440 East Rand Road.

Stossel was arrested without incident on Tuesday, after he had been charged in a criminal complaint filed last week with one count of bank robbery, according to the FBI.

The FBI complaint states that Stoessel entered the TCF Bank branch, 440 E. Rand Road on Nov. 9 at about 10 a.m. He allegedly approached the teller and "made a threatening demand for money," officials said. The offender indicated he was armed but did not display a weapon.

If convicted, the Arlington Heights resident faces up to 20 years in federal prison, officials said.

Investigators were tipped off to Stoessel after descriptions of the robber were noted in media reports, FBI officials said. The complaint was unsealed after Stoessel was arrested and taken into custody, FBI officials said.

A residential burglary was reported last Sunday in the block of 300 West Tanglewood Drive. The Cardinal will be checking to determine whether there is any connection of the residential burglary to the arrested bank robbery suspect Stossel, who lives in the same block.

No suspect image of the Palatine Jewel-Osco TCF Bank has been released. It is unknown whether Stossel is also a suspect in the TCF Bank robbery in Palatine that occurred Friday November 13, 2015.

Next Phase of Arlington Downs Construction Set to Proceed Beyond One Arlington

Construction on Arlington Downs, an apartment, retail and hotel redevelopment project at Rohlwing Road and Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights, will move ahead with the groundbreaking for a hotel building in December, and with the construction of retail buildings next spring.

Four Points by Sheraton will begin construction on a 160-room hotel Dec. 1, according to Jeff Funke, of Funke Architects. Four Points by Sheraton Hotels are mid-scale branded hotels defined by Sheraton as having stylish rooms, with productive workspaces with delicious breakfast service.

Sheraton Four Points also serve local beer with Four Point Best Brews®.

Developers also received approval for adjustments to their October 28, 2015 plan and presented a new architectural look for the 27-acre site at the village board meeting Monday, November 16, 2015.

Funke said developers soon will apply for permits for all six buildings and plan to start construction on one of the retail buildings along Euclid in the spring of 2016. However, Funke did not elaborate on the names of the retailers.

Several large restaurants, a hair salon and a movie theater have expressed interest in the project.

Conceptual approvals include the following ...

Restaurants, and a drive-thru bank

Up to 26,825 square feet of indoor restaurant space

6,400 square feet of outdoor restaurant space

Changes also included an adjustment to lower parking counts, eliminating and adding entrances and exits, and reallocating square footage.

A more contemporary design was proposed which will include wider sidewalks for outdoor eating and pedestrian access. Also, an outdoor plaza with lighting is planned for musical performances at night.

"We didn't want to create a typical environment," said Funke, during the meeting.

Along Euclid Avenue, developers are also planning to create a bike and pedestrian path with a decorative Zoetrope horse sculpture with an animated appearance of the horse galloping parallel to the Euclid Avenue.

"That is our gesture to the horse track and the identity that we are a part of that and the gateway to Arlington Heights," Funke said.

One Arlington, the apartment tower that replaced the original hotel tower and opened last year, was the first phase of the project. The apartment building has successfully reach almost 90 percent full capacity.

Evanston police responded about 4:15 PM Wednesday when they heard gunshots in the area of Lake Street and Darrow Avenue Evanston, IL. While searching the area, police saw two people run into a home in the block of 1800 Lake Street and smelled gunpowder in the air -- one block southeast of Evanston Township High School.

Witnesses said they saw the two males shoot at another group of people on Darrow Avenue, just north of the residence.

While police officers surrounded the 2 1/2-story house, other police officers searched for any possible gunshot victims.
