Arlington Heights Resident, Northfield Part-Time Firefighter Accused of Installing Unlawful Video Camera in Northfield Fire Station Shower

Edward T. Panicko, Jr, age 59, of Arlington Heights has been charged with misdemeanor unauthorized video recording and obstruction of a police officer, according to police. Police say Panicko is accused of unlawfully placed a video recording device in the fire station shower to record another fire department employee showering without the victim's consent, and then falsely told police during an investigation that he destroyed the device. Panicko, who had been a part-time firefighter in Northfield for nine years, resigned earlier in July and turned himself in to authorities on July 25, 2016. The information from a Village of Northfield news release also reported that suspect Panicko was a retired Glenview firefighter. Northfield Fire Rescue employees about 55 personnel and serves a population of about 5,420 in a 3.2 square mile district. Zion police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:16 PM Monday to a report of shooting victim that was actually a stabbing victim at the Mobil gas station, 2500 Sheridan Road Zion, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a battery victim walked into the Mobil gas station and was having a seizure. A 9-1-1 caller reported in an update that the victim had been shot. Police and firefighter/paramedics discovered a male victim stabbed in the chest, unconscious and not breathing. No gunshot wounds were discovered. The 21-year-old male victim was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead. Naperville police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:56 PM Sunday to a report of crash with injuries at 815 Pomeroon St Naperville, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that residents smelled smoke in an apartment building. The first firefighting crew inside the building reported they noticed the odor and reported a "slight haze" in the building, but no visible fire. A small fire was discovered in the space between two apartment on the second and third floors. Firefighters pulled the ceiling on the second floor and pulled up flooring on the third floor of the respective apartments. The fire was extinguished by about 2:10 p.m. A gas line was damaged between two apartment units. No other fire damage was reported to other apartments.
