Arlington Heights Police Introduce Lifeline Response App For Smart Phones At Workshop;

The Arlington Heights Police Department and the Village of Arlington Heights announced last week that they are pleased to announce a partnership with personal safety solution provider, LifeLine Response. In the coming weeks residents, businesses and schools will receive information on how this product works, which puts the latest mobile safety technology in the hands of everyone in the community.

The Village of Arlington Heights hopes the new partnership will put the latest mobile safety technology in the hands of residents, business owners, students, as well as visitors of Arlington Heights. The company that produces LifeLine Response, Clandestine is based locally and approached the Village of Arlington Heights claiming they have the intent of allowing the over 75,000 residents and visitors access to the newest innovation in personal safety. This morning the Arlington Heights Police Department hosted a workshop that introduced how the Lifeline Response app works.

Arlington Heights Police Department will be able to manage a centralized Command Portal that provides access to all activity occurring within the LifeLine Response app user community. For the police, the app and the information provided by app users, provides an additional source of information for crime prevention and police responses in the community.

For app users, LifeLine Response puts two critical tools in the hands of citizens, and when utilized, these tools will allows users to:

1) alert authorities in emergencies and of critical situations without a phone call, and has the potential to increase first-responder effectiveness, decrease Arlington Heights Police Department response times, and

2) allow immediate notification of crime or unsafe activity in an area as reported by citizens in the community.

By downloading LifeLine Response to an Apple iPhone or Android smartphone (www.llresponse.com/download), citizens are provided 24/7 professional monitoring. In the event of an emergency when dialing 911 is not possible, activating the LifeLine Response panic button will notify first-responders of a users physical description and will report the exact GPS coordinates of the mobile phone.

The Arlington Heights Police Department stated in a release about the workshop that they are committed to the safety and protection of all the citizens that they serve. In the release, the Arlington Heights police stated they value the partnership with LifeLine Response, which they report has nationally resulted in saving nine people from attacks. Arlington Heights police also stated they believe it is a product that will impact the overall safety of the community. Arlington Heights police also released that in the "weeks to follow", information about LifeLine Response will be distributed to residents, businesses and schools within Arlington Heights.

LifeLine Response is a tool that supports preventative policing and claims it will change the way residents think about public safety.

The minimum requirements for the app are iOS 8 or higher and an Apple iPhone with an active mobile phone subscription and data plan. GPS functionality must be enabled to provide the 24/7 Response Center with the users location and the availability to respond to user's Distress Alert.

The app is FREE for 45 days, but then a subscription fee is required. A 1-Year Renewal is $9.99.

A one-month renewal is $4.99.

Users are NOT automatically charged during the trial period; the first 45 days are completely free.

Anytime during the free trial period, users have the option to renew by purchasing an in-app auto-renewable monthly subscription for $4.99. It is not clear whether the first renewal can be a yearly renewal or whether the first renewal must be a monthly renewal.

The user's subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.

The users account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal

Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user's Account Settings after purchase.

Clandestine is also working on a prototype drone response that can be used to respond to emergencies. The drone would not be used for surveillance, but would be able to respond to an activation of the LifeLine Response app. The drone, which is capable of responding at high speed, could possibly record video at the emergency and announce that police are on the way while following the GPS signal of the victim.

If the drone prototype concept is implemented, police departments would purchase the drones and would manage the drones. Currently, Arlington Heights Police Department is not considering a drone, and emphasized it would not be a surveillance drone.

Officials from about 15 police departments and media representatives attended the workshop that introduced the Lifeline Response app for smart phones at Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters.

Police and firefighter/paramedics responded to a medical call where a man was apparently refusing help. Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash On Algonquin Rd Just East Of Brownstone Ct/Briarwood Dr,Mount Prospect

Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:14 PM Sunday to a fatal hit-and-run crash injury at 1808 West Algonquin Road Mount Prospect, IL. Police received several reports that a pedestrian was down in the road, unconscious not breathing, and bleeding from the head.

A Northwest Central Dispatch System 9-1-1 dispatcher instructed a Good Samaritan
at the scene on how to do chest compressions for CPR before firefighter/paramedics arrived.

The driver that struck the pedestrian at a high rate of speed about 8:13 p.m. was apparently eastbound on Algonquin Road, just east of the intersection with Brownstone Court/Briarwood Drive.

The offending vehicle was described as a gray or gold Nissan. The direction of travel of the vehicle as it was fleeing the scene was not available.

Mount Prospect police on Monday morning reported they were searching for a gray or gold Nissan with front-end damage to the bumper and grille. From various scattered pieces of the vehicle gathered as evidence, the vehicle would be missing the Nissan logo and have a broken windshield wiper.

Since Mount Prospect police use secret military-grade encrypted police radios, none of the information about the fatal hit-and-run pedestrian incident was made available to the media or to neighborhood watch groups immediately after the incident. No information was immediately available about a vehicle description or that a fatal hit-and-run even occurred immediately or in real-time after the crash.

Family Headed For Spring Break Vacation Narrowly Escapes Horrific Tragedy On Southbound I-290/Il-53 Near Elk Grove Village

Elk Grove Village firefighter/paramedics and Illinois State Police responded about 5:31 AM Saturday to a report of a vehicle fire at southbound 41.996913,-88.025061 (I-290 and Thorndale Avenue Elk Grove Village, IL). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car was on fire, but arrived to find a crash had occurred. A small car rear-ended a minivan in the right lane or shoulder of southbound I-290/IL-53 just north of Thorndale Avenue. The car with front-end damage ended up in front of the minivan. The car was fully-involved with flames when firefighter/paramedics arrived.

Firefighter/paramedics were evaluating seven patients and called for an EMS Box Alarm at 5:42 a.m. All vehicle occupants and a Labrador Retriever escaped the vehicles on their own.

The car fire was extinguished at 5:45 a.m. Firefighters worked extrication tools at the rear of the minivan -- possibly to release stuck luggage or to secure the vehicle for towing -- the reason was not confirmed.

Firefighter/paramedics from Addison, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, and Wood Dale assisted Elk Grove Village firefighter/paramedics. Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics were initially called to the scene, but were held up when it was determined they were not needed.

A family in the mini-van had just started their Spring Break departure for a vacation. Possibly six people and a Yellow Lab were in the minivan. All people and the dog were safe at the scene.

The last patients of seven total patients were transported from the scene at about 6:27 a.m. All patients were transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

A witness on the scene reported he saw an Arlington Heights police car with lights activated at the scene with the crashed car burning as he passed northbound on I-290/IL-53. The Arlington Heights police sergeant in command at Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters refused to answer any questions about the incident, and referred questions to the Illinois State Police. Presumably the Arlington Heights police unit allegedly on the scene may have been en route to assist another police department, or may have been transporting a prisoner to another jail, or picking up a prisoner for extradition. There didn't seem to be any reasonable cause why Arlington Heights Police would not comment on whether the Arlington Heights police officer was involved in the rescue or securing of crash victims, on the well-being of the police officer, or why the officer was out of the Arlington Heights jurisdiction.

Elk Grove Village firefighters and an Illinois State Trooper who was not first on the scene both reported they did not see an Arlington Heights Police Department police squad on the scene.
